Things you should know before you purchase fly rods

Fly fishing is a hobby that has seen huge developments with technology over the years. While the flies and the fishes are related, the developments in the fly rods fly lines and reels have enhanced tremendously, specifically in the past three decades. With the growing popularity of fly fishing, the competition to create the best fly fishing rods has enhanced with various manufacturers competing to create the best fishing rods.

The fundamentals of fly rods

Fly fishing or spey rods vary from regular fishing rods. In a fly rod, you’ll be casting the line in respect to a standard rod that entices the fish. It requires much less creating a rod that casts a weighted lure than it does to cast a very light line that is designed to lay on the water with utmost fragility.

Materials: Over the years, spey rods have seen various changes in the materials that are utilized to construct them. Bamboo has always been a favourite for its nostalgia and action, but is costly and not generally the best pick for somebody’s very first fly fishing rod. Fiber glass, although robust with various actions, is heavy and almost negligible in the world of fly fishing nowadays.

Rod sections: Most of the rods meant for saltwater fly fishing will be able to break down for times when not in use just like the standard rods. Due to the length of the rods, a rod that breaks into a couple of pieces will still be long and not travel that well, specifically if you are flying or travelling with the rod. This is why it is recommended to go with a rod that breaks down into 4 pieces. The connection between the sections, known as ferrels, are so nicely deigned nowadays that you won’t know that there are 4 sections in it.
